Located in the southeastern corner of Missouri, in what's known as the "boot heel," lies the city of Kennett. First, it was called Chilletecaux, named after a Delaware chief who lived in the area. In the 1840's, it was renamed "Butler," but there was already a "Butler" in Missouri, and mail ended up being delivered to the wrong "Butler." Finally, the town was named Kennett after a popular St. Louis mayor. Kennett is 210 miles south of St. Louis, and just 110 miles north of Memphis, Tennessee. This agricultural hub of Missouri is home to over 10,000 residents and is known for producing cotton, soybeans, rice and watermelon, not to mention award-winning musicians. Maybe it's the city's clean air or the unique culinary delights that draw visitors and new residents, or maybe it's the quality educational opportunities. It's also a great location for outdoor activities, and the catfish here are the town's pride and joy. City Center: This central neighborhood is where you'll find Downtown Kennett as well as Jones Memorial Park. Get ready to be astounded by rent prices in this neighborhood. You're going to love your short drive to work, and your proximity to historic downtown.

If you're ready to hook some largemouth bass, crappie, sunfish, or bluegill, get your boat and head out on Lake Jerry Paul. If you'd rather observe wildlife from afar instead of getting up close and personal, you'll be pleased to know that southeast Missouri is one of the most biologically diverse places in the entire state. You can enjoy watching the many varieties of birds that flock to the Little River Conservation Area, or go to the Ben Cash Conservation Area to watch migratory species fly out for their seasonal journey south. Let's just say that birds and fish aren't your thing. What else can you do? Go shopping. Kennett's historic Downtown has been restored to resemble its original appearance, and you'll find clothing, antiques, fine food and the historic courthouse all waiting for your perusal. If you get too hot while you're hoofing it downtown, go enjoy the Sheryl Crow Aquatic Center.
